You may not be the same as your friend! When actors hear that their friend is going on an audition, they have a hard time understanding why they are not going on the same one. Believe me! I have been there. I used to get so worked up when I would hear that my friends were going in for parts but I wasn’t. I naturally thought…I should be going in on that.
I made a horrible mistake once. I heard that one of my good friend was auditioning for this movie so I called my manager and begged her to get me the audition too. The problem was that I hadn’t done any research on it. Well…what do you know… I got the audition. I read the material and it was horrible!!! But what was I suppose to do? I am the one who begged for the audition. Yikes! And when I say horrible, I mean horrible!!! I went in anyway because I was too ashamed to say something.
Oh no!!! They loved me and want me back for a producer session! Later that day I get a call from my manager with the news that I booked it. Oh no!!! What a mess! I had to tell my manager the truth. Luckily she was nice enought to read the script and give me her honest opinion…absolutely not! It was a pretty degrading part. My manager told the director that we were going to pass. The director ended up rewriting the part and it still wasn’t something I wanted to do. After making the poor guy make even more adjustmenst to it, I still didn’t take the role. It just wasn’t up to my standard.
What drama I caused!!! The casting director, my manager, my agent, the director and the producers all wasted their time. This was all because I was jealous that my friend had gotten an audition. Lesson learned! If the part is meant for you, it’s meant for you! I’m not saying not to be a go-getter… just be realistic and understand that we are all different. Olivia
