Schreiber High School Twins Star in the Blockbuster “2012”

Friday night, the 13thof November, saw the Soundview Marketplace Cinema erupting in screams although there wasn’t a horror moviein sight.  The Schreiber High School Boys Cross Country team had arrived for the opening of the 2012 movie in suits, dressed for the premiere.  Soon after, Schreiber 2013 freshmen twins, Alexandre and Philippe Haussmann arrived to the applause of their schoolmates.  They play Alec and Oleg Karpov in the movie.

This was not the first disaster that the Haussmann’s had lived through.  In a case where life mimics the movies, disaster struck 3 days before they were to begin filming when a fire destroyed their house.  Leaving their father behind to pick up what was left of the pieces of their home, Alex, Philippe and their mother flew to Vancouver, Canada and Hollywood where they filmed the $200+ million action-packed roller-coaster ride disaster movie over the next three months.    Their experiences included spending hours in a Bentley crammed with 9 people, getting strung from harnesses and being drowned in giant water tanks.  The end result is the epic blockbuster, 2012, which will go down in history as the mother of all disaster pictures.

Alex and Philippe began their acting career 4 years ago starting at The ManhattanMonologue Slam and have had roles in cable series and commercials.  This was their first chance to play on the big screen and what a way to start.  Even after working with director Roland Emmerich and actors John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Zlatko Buric, they remain well-grounded and humble especially when people ask them about their experience.  It made it that much more poignant when their schoolmates began chanting Haussmann during the movie, applauding when they were on screen and cheering at the end when the credits rolled.  After the movie, people gathered around for pictures and autographs, bringing the excitement of Hollywood to Port Washington for the evening.  However, like all good things, the weekend will end and these two boys will find themselves back in Algebra and Biology on Monday morning.  But what a way to go.
