I recommend you audit any class that permits it. It’s great to get an idea of how the teacher works with the kids plus get a feel for the environment. It’s also a great opportunity to have your child give it a try and see if they are really interested in acting.
With that said, there are definitely great classes that, unfortunately, do not permit auditing. It may be because the teacher feels that having people visit limits the freedom of the students or because the class is for a limited time so it wouldn’t be fair to the other students. If this is the case, you may just have to make the call based on the conversation you have with the acting coach and do some research on the company.
So to answer your question- if the class is reasonably priced and you have a good feeling about the teacher, I would give it a shot. Your not commiting yourselves for years, right? Lorena

Regarding the mom who asked ” I am interested in signing my son up for an acting class… which doesn’t allow audits…Would you join? First of all I want to clarify, I am referring to on-camera acting classes.
For an adult who is serious about becoming an actor, go ahead and enroll on the basis of the teacher’s reputation. However for children and teens, it is always best to find a school that offers a free Introductory class, before you spend your money. When your child says,” I want to be in commercials or I want to be on TV”, they don’t have a frame of reference. Actually experiencing an acting class ,will give your child the answer. Before I owned my own acting school, I taught at a school that did not offer a Free trial class.
And what I found was about 1/4 of the students did not want to participate and really did not like acting. Acting classes are for Kids that want to participate and the only practical way for them to know ,they even LIKE acting is for them to attend a Free Introductory class.

Very good point Mae. Kids usually don’t know if they even want to act until they join that first class.
