Jonathan Castellanos began his acting career just a few years ago and has a resume longer than many adult actors who have been at it for decades. He has played guest roles on “Boston Legal”, “Side Order of Life”, “Rules of Engagement” and has shot a dozen commercials. You may have seen him in commercial spots for Verizon, AAA, Target, Super Value and many more. It’s no wonder that Jonathan now has landed this recurring role on the hit show “Southland”.BSM- So Jonathan congratulations on booking a Recurring Guest Star on Southland! How excited were you when you got the call that you booked the role?
Jonathan Castellanos: I was really shocked! I wasn’t expecting to get it. It was a big role for me so I was beyond excited.
BSM-Please share with us what the audition process was like.
JC: At the first call, it was only the casting director and the camera guy. He said that it was ok to curse. Then he gave me more lines and told me I had a callback the next day. I was like “are you serious”? Then the callback I was nervous cuz there were so many people in the room. I felt a lot of pressure but they reacted well and said I did a really good job.
BSM- Did you have a feeling when you auditioned for the role that you would get it?
JC: No, not at all! There were other kids who look prepared.
BSM- What was your preparation before hand?
JC: I had a lot of help from Lorena and Olivia. They coached me and made sure I did the best job that I could and I’m really greatful for that. Olivia helped me cuz she knew how to act the part and helped me on how to talk and how to position by body. She really helped me build the character.
BSM- With out giving away any of the story line, just give us a brief description of your character.
JC: I play a boy named Little Casper. He’s a wannabe Cholo. He wants to join a gang. He knows a cop named Sammy who’s trying to change his ways. He’s exciting.
BSM- Why do you think they selected you for this role out of the other boys who auditioned?
JC: I am not sure. I honestly don’t know why. I guess I was more prepared and have more training than the others.
BSM- Share with us the highlights of working on a hit show.
JC: The other actors and actresses were really well prepared. They make you believe like the stuff is really happening. Plus it was a big crew. There were people all over the place! It was a bigger crew than even “Boston Legal”.
BSM- What would be your dream role?
JC: I would like to play a police officer on a drama show, like SWAT.
BSM- What made you decide to become an actor?
JC: Since I was little, I always wanted to be on TV. Seeing other people perform made me want to be an actor.
BSM- Who would be the one actor you would give anything to work with?
JC: Tom Hanks cuz he’s a really good actor. He was great in “Saving Private Ryan”.
BSM- What advice would you give to kids out there trying to pursue acting?
JC: Don’t give up. Follow your dream. If you go for it, it could happen.
