It is not a bad sign at all! You really can’t read to much into a casting director’s actions. There is variety of reasons why they redirect actors.
Sometimes it can very busy and they need to get through everyone as fast as possible so they may not redirect. There are times that casting will really like an actor but they may be a little off in the reading so they will work with the actor to see if they can get them to that place and at times they can’t. But then another actor may walk in and nail it so they really don’t need to see any more.
Casting directors tend to decide if a child is getting a callback pretty quickly. It could be they saw what they needed to see and are satisfied or that they were just not “right” for the particular role they were casting.
Don’t make it about getting a job, make it about making fans! If the actor wasn’t right for this role, they maybe right for something else… so no it’s not a sign at all.
