One of the first things a casting director will ask you before you read for a role is if you have questions! The answer to this is- ask only if there is something you truly don’t understand. When it comes to preparing for a role, it is your job as the actor, to do all of your research. Details of the character can be confusing at times, this is why I always recommend you work with an acting coach. This way the two of you can do your best to fill in blanks. At times Agents can also answer your questions. After you have explored the character completely and there is still something that does not make sense, then you are free to ask those questions.
When a casting director brings you to a call back, their name is on the line with the producers so they want you to have all the info you need so you are fully prepared. So bottom line is… do your work!
