Congratulations to Ryan Ballance! He shot his first commercial last weekend and here he shares his experience with us. Thanks Ryan!
“Wow, what an incredible experience! I felt like a star and was treated like a king! This was my first commercial experience as a principle and after having worked background for a while, I would recommend being a principle any day!
When my mom and I arrived on location @ 6:15, I was told to hurry and eat breakfast because I needed to get into wardrobe and makeup so I could get to work by 7:15 – this is in the morning!!! The first shot was outside looking directly into the sun, this took a little getting used to, but it was ok. As we began rehearsals, I realized how much I take foregranted when watching a commercial on television. Everything from birds in the background, cars going by and airplanes flying above had to be worked around.
The next three scenes were done indoors, but the amount of work that the camera and sound people had to do was just as hard as when we were outside. All the different camera angles were discussed, how fast I had to speak and appear in each scene was rehearsed and rehearsed and rehearsed until everyone was happy with it. I have to admit that I was pretty nervous, but the director was amazing and we had the commercial done in 6-1/2 hours. Pretty crazy considering the whole commercial will probably only be about 30 seconds .
Being on set with other kids was a lot of fun. Everyone was so nice and we all got along great. The director, Wayne, made me feel so comfortable and I hope I get to work with him again. He has such a great attitude about everything and really brought out the best in me. I can’t wait to book another job.”

Ryan, we’re all so very proud of you. From the moment I met you I knew you would be a star, your outgoing personality and confidence, plus the commitment and great training is just a combination for success.
I saw you as background in the movie theater, later on I saw you on the reality show and I can’t wait to see the commercial. You’re a dedicated young boy, that has a lot of support from your family and acting instructors/managers - you’re a lucky boy and we’re all cheering for you!
