Olivia was the bearer of the good news. I was at a restaurant eating lunch with my husband and a family friend as the phone rang. I wanted to believe it was for one of the two auditions Carlos’ recently attended. So I told my lunch buddies to please cross their fingers as I answered the phone. It was a funny sight. My heart pounded as I heard the happy news and left to the car immediately to write down the information and just to be able to scream at such good news. We were going to Japan! My son was going to shoot a film in Japan! My soon is taking ME, the mom, to Japan. I kept on thinking this over and over and it just didn’t seem real until we were actually there.
When we were greeted by Jun, a translator from the studio, it finally started sinking in. This was really happening! Until this day, Carlos says Jun is one of his best friends. He still keeps in touch by e-mail.
Nothing like having both parents there to share such an experience, so my husband took a flight over and joined us later that week. Our hotel was in the middle of Tokyo’s night life. The lights were just beautiful just like all Japanese people. The guy’s style is that of the New Yorker with the black suits, and girls were just like out of an anime comic book. Their friendliness and kindness was out of this world.Â
Before my husband got there we got lost once, but it was wonderful. Although nobody understood a word I said, their willingness to help was uncanny as I asked for help getting back to the hotel. Carlos could not believe an adult could actually get lost anywhere. I told him that we would laugh at this little incident back home saying, “remember when we got lost in Japan.” He did not think it was funny then but laughs about it now.
We got to work with real professional wrestling champions! This was the most unreal experience for Carlos. These tough guys would take Carlos in between takes and just play-wrestle with him on the ring! It is every boy’s dream to be on a real ring let alone with real wrestlers. When it was time to work Carlos showed amazing professionalism, even at 4:00am. He delivered like you would expect from any grown up professional actor. No whinning. He was always just down right happy to be there. Of course, it helped that a little girl from the extras ran up and asked for his autograph. He was on cloud nine!
I have to admit, off the set Carlos was not so crazy about walking when we went sight seeing. We visited places like “electric city” where they sell all kinds of new computers and gadgets and we went to visit some beautiful ancient temples. I’ll confess he was right. We did walk A LOT! We took a ton of pictures like…two million and a half.Â

All in all, this was the best thing that has happened to Carlos and needless to say to us as parents. We are so proud of him just like he is of himself. We look forward to more adventures like these in the future…with arms wide open (hehe).
